Everyone Can Cook Vegan – A Cookbook That’s Earned a Spot on My Kitchen Shelf

There’s something about a good cookbook that makes you want to roll up your sleeves and get cooking straight away. That’s exactly how I felt when I started flipping through Everyone Can Cook Vegan by Maryanne Hall. It’s more than just a collection of recipes — it’s a celebration of food, kindness, and conscious cooking.

And yes, I’ve been cooking my way through it — and loving every bite.

Cooking My Way Through the Book

So far, I’ve tried quite a few recipes and have already found some favourites. The Warm Moroccan Salad with Spicy Harissa Drizzle is bursting with flavour and spice — the kind of dish that instantly lifts your mood.

The Vegetable Paella is vibrant, hearty, and perfect for sharing. The Spicy Protein Burritos and Chilli Con Carne are now regulars in our weekly meal rotation — both super satisfying and protein-packed.

And then there are the desserts. Let’s just say… wow. The Fluffy Chocolate Mousse and the Gooey Chocolate Fudge Cake are honestly to die for. I had to double-check that they were vegan because they tasted so rich and indulgent — no compromise on texture or flavour at all.

What’s Inside the Book?

The book is laid out beautifully, making it super easy to use whether you’re a confident cook or just starting out. Here’s a peek at the sections:

  • Smoothies, Breakfast and Brunch
  • Salads and Sandwiches
  • Lunches and Soups
  • Mains
  • Stews and Curries
  • Sides
  • Sauces, Dressings, Dips and Other Essentials
  • Cakes, Bakes and Desserts
  • Snacks
  • Index

It’s a thoughtful and practical mix, covering every type of meal and craving. The instructions are clear, the ingredients are easy to find, and each recipe is beautifully illustrated with mouth-watering photos

A Taste of Italy with a Plant-Based Twist: My Review of Veganissimo by Antonio Alderuccio

Veganissimo A Taste of Italy with a Plant-Based Twist by Antonio Alderuccio

As someone passionate about discovering vegetarian and gluten-free gems from around the world, I was immediately drawn to Veganissimo, a vibrant cookbook that promises more than just recipes—it offers a culinary journey through Italy with a compassionate, plant-powered lens.

First Impressions: Bold, Beautiful, and Structured with Heart

Opening the book, I was met with a bold and modern design that sets the tone for what lies ahead. The contents are thoughtfully organised into classic Italian sections: Antipasti, Primi, Secondi, Pizza, Bread & Crackers, Sauces & Sides, Dolce, and a helpful Pantry guide. It’s clear from the outset that this isn’t just another plant-based cookbook—it’s a celebration of Italian food, reimagined for those living a gluten-free and vegan lifestyle.

The Chef Behind the Magic: Antonio Alderuccio

Antonio Alderuccio’s story adds a deeply personal touch to this book. Born in Syracuse, Sicily, he moved to London in 2015 and made waves with his innovative, inclusive approach to fine dining. Inspired by a young girl dealing with diabetes and coeliac disease, Antonio opened The Lowg—Europe’s first fine-dining restaurant catering specifically to dietary restrictions.

In 2019, he launched Plant Club, London’s first vegan and gluten-free Italian restaurant. His work has been internationally recognised, including being named Britain’s pasta chef of the year in 2022. Most recently, as executive chef at Linfa in Milan, Antonio has earned accolades for his cutting-edge, plant-based cuisine—including what’s been called one of the best gluten-free pizzas in Milan.

Recipes That Resonate (and What I’ve Tried So Far!)

With over 75 beautifully crafted recipes, the hardest part was choosing where to start. I finally kicked things off with the gluten-free seeded crackers—crisp, wholesome, and perfect for snacking.

Then came the beluga lentil salad, which was full of earthy depth and freshness.
But the one that truly won my heart was the creamy saffron and potato soup—rich, comforting, and packed with flavour. I was totally bowled over by the taste and textures in all three dishes. Honestly, I can’t wait to cook my way through the entire book!

Why This Book Belongs in Your Kitchen

Whether you’re plant-based, gluten-free, or simply a curious foodie, Veganissimo is a cookbook that inspires. The recipes are elegant but approachable, grounded in tradition yet entirely modern. The author’s story adds authenticity and warmth, and each page reflects his passion for inclusive, joyful cooking.

What I love most is that this book doesn’t feel like it’s about what’s missing (meat, dairy, gluten)—instead, it’s about all the beautiful things that remain and shine. The flavours, the textures, the colours—it’s a feast in every sense.

My Scorecard

Illustration: 5/5

Content: 5/5

This is high score but I really could not find any fault in the book. I absolutely love this book.

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking to elevate your plant-based cooking with a touch of Italian flair, or just want to explore gluten-free recipes that don’t compromise on taste or tradition, Veganissimo is a must-have. Antonio Alderuccio has created a culinary love letter to Italy, one that’s inclusive, imaginative, and absolutely delicious.
